A DGST101 Project by Lexy Echard and Tiffany Moore

In thinking of how to approach this assignment, we focused on the structure of the Internet itself, and how this could be represented without any form of technology.

In thinking of this, there is one photo we both turned to that encompasses this idea, but in a visual manner.

5% Web Safe Zone, 95% Deep Web, and 500x Dark Web

The iceberg photo is a great way to show internet participants not only what the other forms of the web are, but also how little we truly access during our every day internet use.

With this information in mind, it is important to note what falls into each category.

The Deep Web and the Dark Web combined are estimated to represent 96% of the content on the web.

With our project, we wanted to reflect the information in each photo, but in an original way. To do this, we decided to represent the iceberg by creating our own spin on the well-known Matryoshka dolls (Russian tea dolls). To do this, we hand crafted boxes from paper, that ranged in size, so that they were able to fit into each other. We used the size to represent how accessible the categories demonstrated are to internet users. On each of the boxes, there are also different logos and icons in order to represent what you are able to access in each group.

Lastly, we recorded a video, and turned it into a gif to bring together our learning from past units! And with that… we have the internet…. with no interent!
